Grimes: You learn from the tough days

16 October 2017

Defender Jamie Grimes acknowledges you learn more about yourself from the tough days - as he looks to bounce back with Cheltenham Town this week.

Grimes revealed the players were gutted as the unbeaten run ended at Port Vale.

However, the big centre half knows the Robins have the opportunity to come back stronger for the experience when they face Grimsby Town at the LCI Rail Stadium in Sky Bet League Two tomorrow (Tuesday).

“The days I remember and learn from are the ones when I have taken a bit of a beating. You come back stronger for it,” he said.

“It was an off-day. We need to learn from and move on as quickly as we can; we have the ideal opportunity against Grimsby.

â€śI’ve not played against Grimsby for a couple of seasons because they got promoted. Every time I have played against it has been a tough game.

“If you are not performing you lose your shirt here,” he added. “That is the good thing about this squad, we have got competition and we have got to perform to keep the shirt.

“That is the mentality of this squad; everyone is working as hard as they can to be as good as they can be every time they wear the shirt. We have a real chance to put Saturday right against Grimsby.

“On the bus on the way back from Port Vale it was a bit of a sombre affair – we were gutted that the run had ended and the way it did.

“But knowing this group, and knowing the individuals, it will only make us hungrier to put it right.”
