REPORT: Cheltenham 1-5 Peterborough

29 July 2017

The Robins finished their pre-season schedule with a 5-1 loss against League One side Peterborough.

A first half penalty from Dan Holman gave the Robins an early lead, but Peterborough hit back through a Marriott hat-trick and a Maddison goal.

Cheltenham again lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with Mohamed Eisa and Holman leading the line, Nigel Atangana, Harry Pell and Kyle Storer in the midfield. Jerell Sellars and Danny Wright both missed out.

Jon Flatt was called into action early doors to tip a Marriott drive round the post in an open first ten minutes.

Storer, Holman and Atangana combined to carve out a chance for Eisa who was brought down when clean through on goal, and a penalty was awarded.

Holman stepped up and calmly slotted past Bond. However, that was not to be the last battle between the two.

After deliberation from the linesman and referee, another penalty was awarded after Eisa was deemed to have been fouled in the box.

This time, Bond was equal to the spot kick and the score remained 1-0.

Peterborough then equalised through Marriott, after Junior Morias was allowed to run through the middle of the pitch. Flatt saved initially but Marriott tapped home.

Cheltenham were unchanged going into the second half, with Peterborough bringing on Chris Forrester for Anthony Grant.

Peterborough took the lead through Marcus Maddison as he slotted past Flatt following a slick counter-attack.

Cheltenham’s efforts to get back into the game were in vain as Peterborough added a third through Marriott, following good work from Morias on the right.

Marriott completed his hat-trick when he squirmed one under Flatt after barging Grimes off the ball.

The misery was compounded when an own goal gave Peterborough their fifth of the afternoon.

Not the ideal result for Cheltenham, but the first half performance was pleasing.

We travel to Morecambe for the first game of the season next Saturday, and would love to see as many of you there as possible!

Thank you as always for your support.
