REPORT & REACTION: Evesham 0-3 Cheltenham

17 July 2017

Watch what the Gaffer Gary Johnson had to say to Robins TV after Monday's 3-0 win at Evesham here and read the match report below:

Match report:

A brace from Danny Wright and a curling effort from Mohamed Eisa were enough to secure a 3-0 win for Cheltenham.

The duo played the full 90 minutes as Eisa took his pre-season tally to five, and Wright notched his first and second.

The first 15 minutes were fiercely contested between both sides and it was hard to tell it was a friendly at times, as tempers flared.

The breakthrough came when Kyle Storer lofted a ball into the box, which was headed down by Will Boyle and finished with aplomb by Wright.

Evesham had a chance to get back into the game when Jerell Sellars was adjudged to have handled in the box.

Mann stepped up for Evesham, but Rhys Lovett, who was outstanding all evening, was equal to it.

Cheltenham had various chances to double their lead in the first half, with two Harry Pell free-kicks stinging the palms of Evesham’s number one.

The Robins only made one change at the interval, with Daniel O’Shaughnessy replacing Jordan Cranston.

Evesham, having absorbed pressure well in the first half, came out attacking and put the Cheltenham goal under siege. Lovett saved well from Mark Magee’s free-kick as the pressure built.

However, a moment of brilliance from Danny Wright gave the Robins a two-goal cushion. O’Shaughnessy’s floated ball was volleyed superbly by the front man leaving the ‘keeper with no chance.

Eisa, who was lively all evening, made sure of the win with a beautiful curling effort into the top corner.

Cheltenham showed prowess going forward but also capability in defence, with the back three dealing with Evesham’s attacks.

Our next friendly is away at Bath City on Thursday, come down and support the lads as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.
