Cheltenham Town vs Plymouth Argyle

REPORT: Cheltenham Town 1-2 Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle scored a late goal to beat Cheltenham Town 2-1 in an eventful game at The LCI Rail Stadium.

The Pilgrims went into half time a goal up thanks to Sonny Bradley, despite Cheltenham arguably having the better of the opening 45 minutes.

The Robins thought they had stolen a point when Dan Holman equalised with five minutes to go after a scramble in the box.

But it was Plymouth who nicked the win in stoppage time when Bradley rose the highest to power a header past Scott Brown.

Diego De Girolamo had the first chance of the afternoon for Cheltenham on eight minutes as he turned cleverly just outside the box and unleashed a powerful shot, but it was comfortably saved by Luke McCormick.

Five minutes later De Girolamo went close again as he found space in the Plymouth half and hit a low effort from about 25 yards out that went inches wide of the right hand post.

It was a strong start to the game from The Robins, and they had another opportunity soon after when Dan O’Shaughnessy’s header from James Rowe’s corner had to be cleared off the line.

However, against the run of play it was Plymouth who took the lead on 27 minutes as Bradley arrived at the far post to bundle the ball just about across the line from a corner.

It stayed that way until the break, and then afterwards it was Cheltenham who started the better and almost equalised when Billy Waters’ cross was headed narrowly wide by Alex Pike.

With just under 20 minutes to go Plymouth had the chance to extend their lead when Arnold Garita had only Brown to beat, but the Robins’ goalkeeper clawed the ball from his feet when he tried to round him and then got it away.

Cheltenham were pushing for an equaliser, though, and it finally came on 85 minutes when some pinball in the box saw it fall to Holman, who tucked it into the bottom corner.

However, it was Plymouth who came away with the three points thanks to Bradley’s second goal of the game in injury time.
