Convincing performance

Cheltenham Town under 18's finished their EFL Youth Alliance Southwest Division season in style with an emphatic victory over Newport County AFC under 18's.

Josh Thomas scored a hat-trick for the young Robins as they ran riot at Seasons Training Ground.

George Lloyd, Joe Hance and Will Dawes were also on target for Cheltenham who were dominant from start to finish.

The win over Newport came after a last minute defeat at Bournemouth last weekend and manager Ashleigh Hopkins was delighted with his teams response. "We were always in full control of the game," said Hopkins. "The lads showed great stamina, strength, skill and spirit to overcome a strong Newport team.

"As a young player in the under 18's you must learn that something constructive comes from every victory and defeat."

Cheltenham Town U18's will now join the EFL Merit Youth League and Hopkins is relishing the challenges ahead.

"We are looking forward to the next few weeks and will go full steam ahead into our new league," he said.

"I am looking forward to working with Antoine Thompson to continue to develop these lads next season".
