REPORT: Cheltenham Town 2-0 Yeovil Town
Cheltenham Town recorded a fantastic 2-0 win over Yeovil Town thanks to an impressive second half display from Gary Johnson’s men.The Robins arguably edged the first 45 minutes but couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Artur Krysiak despite a few good chances.
After the break it took just three minutes for Cheltenham to take the lead when Tin Plavotic scored with a header from a free kick.
Billy Waters then got the all important second goal on 63 minutes when he converted a penalty won by Kyle Wootton.
It took four minutes for Cheltenham to create their first chance of the game as Scott Brown’s long kick found Waters, but his half-volley was smashed over the crossbar.
The Robins made a good start to the match and had a couple more chances inside the opening period of the game, with Jack Barthram’s low shot being comfortably saved and Carl Winchester’s header going over.
Yeovil were struggling to create any real opportunities, but were threatening the Cheltenham defence through the pace and power of their front three.
The away side did have a big chance to take the lead in first half injury time, though, when Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro got a shot away inside the box, but fortunately it hit the left post and rolled away to safety.
After the interval it took just three minutes for Cheltenham to go ahead when James Rowe’s free kick was flicked in by Plavotic.
That lead was then almost doubled five minutes later when Waters beat the offside trap inside the area, but his shot went narrowly over the crossbar.
However, just after the hour mark The Robins did make it 2-0 when Kyle Wootton was fouled inside the box and Waters stepped up to stick the resulting penalty in the bottom corner.
Yeovil never really threatened to get back into the game after the second goal, and Cheltenham managed to see the game out to claim an important three points.
