Morrell: We must find more consistency

26 December 2017

Midfielder Joe Morell admitted the Robins need to find more consistency in the second half of the season if they are to push up the league table.

Two second half goals from Yeovil Town saw them claim a 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town in Sky Bet League Two on Boxing Day.

And a frustrated Morrell acknowledged the team now need a positive reaction against Newport County AFC this weekend.

“It was a massively frustrating afternoon for us,” said Morrell. “After the Barnet game we felt we could go on a run. But today and the Coventry game have derailed that a little bit.

“We felt it was a winnable game – even during the game we felt that. It was one step forward against Barnet and one step back today. Our focus is now on Newport and we need a reaction.

“If we had the formula to better our consistency we would be in a better position,” he added.

“Consistency is what the Lutons and Notts Countys have got. It’s a league where if you get some consistency then you will be up amongst it – that is what we are striving for.

“When we had some consistency a few months back we shot up the table. We just need to find that again and that is down to us as players.

Cheltenham enjoyed plenty of ball in the clash but could not turn territory and possession into goals.

“You can have all the play and the ball, but it doesn’t mean anything unless you are testing the goalkeeper. We didn’t do that enough,” added Morrell.

“At home the mainstay of our game has been a possession one. You can look pretty and have all then ball, but we’d rather be in Yeovil’s position and have all the points.

“If we had a dressing room of players that didn’t have the ability and attitude to be where we could be then there would be no frustration. But we know we are good enough to do better.”
