Flinders: Destiny of season is in our hands

14 December 2017

Goalkeeper Scott Flinders acknowledges the destiny of this season could well be decided into the coming month – insisting ‘it is in our hands’.

Cheltenham currently occupy 15th spot in Sky Bet League Two – five points off the play-offs and seven points off the bottom two.

And with four games until the turn of the year, Flinders knows the outcome of this series of fixtures could well decide what end of the table the Robins compete in.

“The gap between us and Coventry in the play-offs is only five points. We have some really good games coming in the New Year and it is in our hands,” he said.

“We need to put in some strong performances going to the turn of the year and see where we are.

“We need consistency and the gaffer has really got onto the lads about putting a strong end of the year together.”

Cheltenham head to the Ricoh Arena hunting a second league win of the season and Flinders wants that away form to pick up starting Saturday.

“The table doesn’t lie – we need to improve our away form,” he said.

“We’ve got a big December with some good games coming up. The gaffer keeps telling us about putting ourselves into a good position.

“We’ve been scoring goals away – it has been at the other end. It’s a mentality where we need to stop letting goals in and be more consistent at the back. We need to keep clean sheets away now.

“We need to take the home form away. It’s going to be another tough game at Coventry, but all we can do is take the form from last Saturday when we really ground out a result.”
