Grounded Cranston wants to help Robins fly

25 August 2017

Full back Jordan Cranston is determined to continue his upward curve this season as he prepares to tackle Exeter City in Sky Bet League Two at the LCI Rail Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Cranston was one of the star performers in mid-week as he tussled with the likes of Diafra Sakho, Javier Hernandez and Andre Ayew in a pulsating Carabao Cup clash with West Ham.

The Wednesfield-born defender has enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign - featuring in all six of the club’s league and cup fixtures.

However, the 23-year-old will not be getting carried away by his performances as he looks to continue his development under the watchful eye of boss Gary Johnson and his staff.

"I feel I am doing well… but I'm not getting ahead of myself," he said. "I am staying focused on what I have got to do for the team.

"I’m grounded, have a good family background behind me and the staff are keeping me grounded as well.

"I am getting older now, I am 24 in November and I have got a baby on the way in October which is keeping my feet on the ground. I’m staying positive and keeping everyone around me happy. I am feeling confident and I plan to stay that way."

Cranston will be hoping to be involved as Exeter arrive at the home of the Robins tomorrow (Saturday) and the defender admits it is vital the team builds on the mid-week performance against the Hammers.

He added: "We have got to take the positives out of that game. We started well and unfortunately had a few silly mistakes before half-time. We played well in the second half and I thought we finished the game on top.

"Ever since I've been here we have been a positive team and the gaffer told us at half-time we had to go out and play for ourselves and play for the fans.

“We gave a good account of ourselves and now we need to build on that back in the league."
