Gary: We did the town proud

23 August 2017

Gary Johnson was proud of his players following his side’s 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat by West Ham United at the LCI Rail Stadium.

The manager was pleased with the performance other than a seven-minute spell at the end of the first half that saw the Premier League side score twice.

“We matched them. West ham United paid us a massive complement by turning up and really competing,” Gary said.

“They obviously expected us to get in their faces a bit and we did, creating a few chances too.

“Hopefully people will see we matched them for most of the game.

“It’s all about the bigger picture and the games we have coming up. We playing with energy and in the end, the difference was the Premier League finishes.

"The club can be proud of our performance tonight and we did the town proud."
