Dawson vows Robins will improve

29 August 2017

Midfielder Kevin Dawson insists the Robins will be putting in the hard yards at training this week as they look for a return to winning ways.

Dawson marked his full league debut at the LCI Rail Stadium with a superb brace at the weekend.

But his two-goal haul was in vain as Exeter rallied to secure a 4-2 victory.

And he knows manager will leave no stone unturned this week as the team look to bounce back when Stevenage visit this Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

“We need to work hard and make sure we get three points on Saturday,” said Dawson.

“We played well for the first 25 minutes against Exeter - but a game is 90 minutes long. We showed what we can do but we need to do it for longer periods.

“We created chances in the first half and could have been further ahead. We have got to remain positive and we played some good football in that period, but we’ve got to manage it better.

“It’s still early in the season, players are still learning their games and I am sure it will come.

“And I can guarantee the gaffer will ensure we get it right.”

Dawson was reunited with Johnson this summer after the two worked together at Yeovil Town.

And after a thigh injury ruled him out of the first three games of the season, he returned off the bench against Carlisle and West Ham before marking his first start with two goals.

“It’s good to be back. My fitness is not yet where I want it to be, but that will come in time,” he added.

“There is no midweek game for us this week so we have got to get our heads down and work even harder this week to get it right.”
