Preview: Cheltenham V Crawley

11 August 2017

Cheltenham Town face Crawley in the first league game of the season at the LCI Rail Stadium as Harry Kewell comes to town.

Following an opening day defeat to Morecambe, Cheltenham will be looking to record their first league win of the season.

A 4-3 victory midweek against Oxford in the Carabao Cup has lifted spirits as Mohamed Eisa and Danny Wright both scored braces in an epic comeback.

Crawley

Crawley have lost both of their games this season. They suffered defeat at home to Port Vale on the opening day and suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of Birmingham in the Carabao Cup.

It will be Harry Kewell’s first competitive away game in senior football, he told iFollow Crawley: "It's an important game and one that we know will be difficult as both teams are looking to get off the mark.”

Crawley finished two places ahead of the Robins last season, with both clubs hoping for better fortunes this year.

Team News

Crawley team news: Jimmy Smith returned to training for the Reds but is not expected to be fit in time for the match.

Cheltenham team news: Kevin Dawson and Josh Thomas are back in training and are in contention to start. Otherwise, the Robins have a full squad to choose from. New signing Brian Graham has now received international clearance and is available for selection.

The man in the middle

Darren Drysdale will be refereeing the first league match at the LCI Rail Stadium this season. The two assistant referees will be Ravel Cheosiaua and Christopher Husband, with Simon Shaw as the fourth official.
