FA Cup Second Round Draw Details & Johnson reaction

7 November 2016

Cheltenham or Crewe

The winner of the Cheltenham Town V Crewe Alexandra FA Cup first round replay will travel to Sutton United of the National League in the second round.

The replay, which takes place next Tuesday is a result of the 1-1 draw at the LCI Rail Stadium on Saturday.

Sutton, who knocked out Forest Green Rovers in the fourth qualifying round, have ex-Robin George McLennan on their books. Something that didn't escape the attention of Gary Johnson, " The first thing that springs to mind is George McLennan. The second is that they play on Astro " referring to Sutton's 3G pitch.

"I'll be talking to John Finnigan about his work at Winchcombe School where they have a 3G pitch and we'll be asking a few favours of him so that we can get used to the surface" Johnson added.

However before fans can start thinking about Sutton, Johnson only has eyes for Crewe, "Of course, Crewe will have their own thoughts, neither us nor Crewe can count our chickens too early. It becomes a big game because the next round is of course the big one. Sutton, Crewe & Cheltenham will be dreaming of the third round."

If the Robins do make it past Crewe however, the Johnson boys will be ready for them, as Gary explains, "Both of my brothers live just round the corner from Sutton so if we get past Crewe that will be handy for scouting!"

The second round tie will be played on the weekend of the 3rd/4th of December. Details of the replay at Crewe can be read here.
