U18s Lose To Oxford

Cheltenham Town U18’s suffered another defeat as they were beaten 3-1 by Oxford United at Seasons training ground on Saturday morning.

After both sides were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup earlier this week they switched their attention to the league, but it was the U’s who left with all three points.

Ashleigh Hopkins’ side came into this one off the back of three straight defeats and struggled to handle their opposition once again, conceding three or more goals for the fourth match in a row.

Goals from Oxford midfielders Joseph Hartley and Albie Hopkins were enough to give Leon Blackmore-Such’s the victory, despite Joe Hance scoring an impressive goal for the Young Robins.

This defeat means that Hopkins’ side drop down to 6th in the table, now seven points off league leaders Exeter City.

After the game, Hopkins said: “Our first half performance was a massive improvement in comparison to recent weeks, but once again defensive mistakes let us down and we conceded soft goals today.”

The Young Robins are on the road next week as they travel to face Bristol Rovers, who currently sit second in the league.
