ACADEMY UPDATE: U18s bounce back with win over Walsall!

30 July 2016

The U18s bounce back!

Cheltenham Town’s Academy U18s bounced back from disappointment at North Leigh with a fantastic 1-0 win over Walsall.

An early goal, with the aid of a deflection, from Taylor Cordell was the perfect start to the game for The Robins.

Walsall had spells of possession and plenty of chances, but Cheltenham held on to the win to build some positive momentum as we draw closer to the new season.

After the game, manager Ashleigh Hopkins said: “I’m really pleased with how the boys have been progressing in training over the past six weeks.

“They’ve developed a real tempo with their play and have an excellent attitude to high pressing and winning the ball back early.

“We want to be exactly like the first team on and off the pitch, and we’re showing good signs of that at the moment.

“Our game plan was not to concede and gain confidence through winning matches.”

The U18s face Cinderford Town in a senior fixture next, which Hopkins said will “give them a great experience of the adult game”.
