Report: Boreham Wood 0-0 Cheltenham

Cheltenham Town's six game winning streak came to an end after a 0-0 draw at Boreham Wood. Despite a host of chances to score and extend the lead at the top of the National League, the Robins were unable to capatalise against their stubborn opponents. Both goalkeepers were their respective team's heroes with several spectacular saves to ensure the game ended in a stalemate.

There was a quiet start to the first half, with neither team able to dominate possession. Boreham Wood had the best early chance when Conor Clifford whipped in a good cross to Jordan Chiedozie but the striker couldn't quite get his flicked shot on target.

Jack Munns was the first Robins player to threaten the home goalkeeper. However his half-volleyed shot was straight at the keeper from 25 yards after a good knock down from Danny Wright.

Cheltenham almost broke the deadlock after 39 minutes when a Robins' counter attack ended in a cross from George McLennan finding Ryan Jennings at the back post. The winger's powerful header was acrobatically tipped over the bar by James Russell in the Boreham Wood net.

Gary Johnson's side finished the half the stronger as Billy Waters' effort from 20 yards forced another good save from Russell. From the resulting corner Dan Parslow's header was cleared off the line by Danny Woodards and the half ended 0-0.

Cheltenham started the second half well and had several chances to break the deadlock. First Danny Wright managed to beat the offside trap but his cut back missed everyone and allowed Boreham Wood to clear. Next Harry Pell and Ryan Jennings combined well down the right but Pell's shot was bravely blocked inside the six yard box.

Jack Munns thought he had scored in the 65th minute but his long range effort drifted just wide.

Gary Johnson brought on Asa Hall and James Dayton for Jennings and Munns respectively in search of a winner with 20 minutes to go. Harry Pell's long range free-kick moments later forced another great save from Russell as he pushed the ball over the bar.

Inside the last 15 minutes both Dan Parslow and Billy Waters blazed over the bar from inside the six yard box as the Robins threw everything at their stubborn opponents.

Cian Harries was then brought on to make his Cheltenham debut with 10 minutes left. Billy Waters was the man to make way.

Cheltenham continued to dominate without success as Kyle Storer's corner was scrambled to safety after it looked to be curling into the top corner.

With the Robins pushing hard for the win, Boreham Wood had two chances late on to snatch the win. First Ricky Shakes smashed a shot off the bar.
With one minute of injury time left Dillon Phillips produced a top class save to deny Clovis Kamdjo's deflected shot. The ball looked destined for the roof of the net but Phillips somehow manged to change direction and push the ball out for a corner!

Skipper Aaron Downes was forced off in injury time with a knee injury, meaning Cheltenham were down to 10 men with no subs left to make.

Despite being a man down, Cheltenham very nearly snatched a dramatic late win. Asa Hall the man to be denied twice. First his long ranged effort on the counter attack was brilliantly saved by Russell yet again.
With the final play of the game Boreham Wood managed to clear the ball of the line! Asa Hall was again the unlucky man after he had beaten his marker and got his header on target.

It was not to be Cheltenham's day as the match finished 0-0.
