Report: Cheltenham 3-1 Lincoln

Cheltenham Town saw off Lincoln City 3-1 to take the champions' points tally to 101 for the season.

Danny Wright put the Robins 1-0 up before Luke Waterfall levelled for the visitors.

Birthday boy Kyle Storer put the Robins back in front in the second half and then Dan Holman sealed the victory.

In a game which could have easily been classified as a dead rubber in the pre-match previews, the first 10 minutes threw up little to get excited about. Cheltenham the champions in search of an exceptional 101 points against Lincoln slap bang in the middle of the table.

Rob Dickie provided the first edge of your seat chance when he latched onto his own block in Lincoln's box only for his chipped shot to go straight into the hands of Paul Farman.

Minutes after and Jordan Cranston found Dan Holman in the box with an exquisite diagonal ball, however the striker couldn't force clean contact under pressure and Lincoln managed to clear.

Jack Muldoon had the visitors' first real chance but his shot from the left hand side of the box proved no bother for Jon Flatt at the near post. Matt Rhead then pulled off a somewhat unexpected overhead kick however that trickled out a yard wide of Flatt's goal.

Another good chance fell to Rhead shortly after but his powerful header again came to no avail.

Into the last 10 minutes of the half and Jon Flatt pulled off a great save from Jamie McCombe's downward header.

Somewhat against the run of play, Cheltenham took the lead in the 39th minute. Daniel Parslow headed Kyle Storer's corner straight at Paul Farman but Danny Wright coolly slotted home the rebound. It added to what was already a great day for Wright who picked up the sponsors' and supporters' player of the year awards before the match.

Minutes before the break and Lincoln were right back in it. Ironically as the heavens began to open over the World of Smile Stadium Luke Waterfall rose highest in the box to nod past Jon Flatt. With neither side taking much of a stranglehold on the game, the 1-1 score line at the break certainly seemed fair.

Into the second half and Lincoln came close to getting in front, Jack Muldoon beat Parslow in a foot race and stabbed it past Flatt but it hit the bottom of the post and went out for a goal kick.

Shortly after and Asa Hall had a chance to put the Robins back in front, Harry Pell teed up his midfield counterpart 25 yards out but Hall's driven shot went just wide. That would turn out to be one of Hall's last influences on the game, he was replaced by young player of the year Jack Munns while James Dayton replaced Jack Barthram as the Robins switched to a 4-4-2 formation.

In the 62nd minute, after good work from Dayton and Munns the ball broke to birthday boy Kyle Storer in the right hand side of the box and he slotted home from a tight angle to put his side back in front.

George Maris had a great chance to level it as the ball broke free to him unmarked in the box but he skied it over the bar.

Amari Morgan-Smith replaced Danny Wright in the 74th minute and quite rightly received a standing ovation; he's been a joy to watch this season.

The game was up on the 78th minute when Dan Holman made it 3-1. Amari Morgan-Smith cheekily back-heeled James Dayton's cross but that was blocked by Holman who then casually lifted it over Farman to wrap up a great day for the Robins.

James Dayton looked to get in on the act with seven minutes to go but his fluffed shot was dealt with well by Farman. Holman then should have made it 4-1 shortly after when he went through one-on-one but a bobble took the ball from his control and Farman gathered.

The result meant Cheltenham finished the season as champions and with an impressive 101 points total in tow.
