Defender is first new signing of the summer for Cheltenham Town

11 May 2015

Cheltenham Town boss Gary Johnson has made defender Aaron Downes his first new signing of the summer.

The 29-year-old Australian left Torquay United at the end of the season after three years at Plainmoor.

He has also been on the books of Chesterfield and spent time on loan at Bristol Rovers in 2012.

Born in Mudgee, New South Wales, Downes spent time at the Australian Institute of Sport as a youngster before moving to England and joining Bolton Wanderers on trial.
