VIDEO: It's an honour to be captain - Troy Brown

7 January 2015

Defender Troy Brown says it has been an honour to wear the captain's armband in the absence of injured skipper Matt Taylor.

Boss Paul Buckle has chosen former Ipswich Town and Aldershot Town centre-back Brown as his on-field leader for the past two matches, the most recent of which was a 2-1 victory at Oxford United last Saturday.

"It's a real honour to have the armband," Brown said. "I have been here for just over 18 months now and it's good feeling to be playing, but to have the armband gives you an extra spring in your step.

"It was a major relief to get the win at Oxford after such a long time and the way we did it was pleasing too. We didn't play our best, but we went 1-0 down and then scored two goals in quick succession before half-time.
"We didn't fold and we showed a lot of character. We stood up to the test, with a lot of young lads in the team and everyone did their part."

Meanwhile, Jason Taylor's contract with Cheltenham Town has been cancelled by mutual consent and the players is now a free agent.

The midfielder joined Northampton Town on loan in time for the opening of the January transfer window, but permission has now been obtained to recall him so that he could be given the free transfer.
