VIDEO: Cheltenham Town manager Gary Johnson ahead of Barrow at home

21 August 2015

On the teams' consistency:

The margins are very fine. At the level we're playing, you're going to have about 10 teams at least that you've got to be really ready for.
Probably more, but there are going to be 10 games at least where you'll play very very similar teams with similar qualities and tactics and we have to realise that and know that a team is going to be at its fittest, as Chester proved, in the first half an hour.
It's the games that you're expecting to be even that you've got to do those extra special things. Whether that's a special piece of skill or set piece to go and win the game.
Even though we haven't lost, we've only won one which is probably where the title of inconsistent comes from but we are getting there, it's a new squad, a lot of the lads haven't played in this league before.

On the importance of a fast start and Tuesday's game at Chester:

We need to be ready, despite the long coach journey. We have tried to revive them in the warm up but we were a bit slovenly in the first 15 minutes but I did feel the game was pretty even throughout.
I remember my Cambridge days where we threw a bucket of cold water over the players after a long journey and the players won't like me saying that I may start that again here if we start slowly again away from home.

On the season so far and the hope of repeating the Southport performance:

I'm pretty happy so far, Saturday does become very important again just like the Southport game was, if we get the three points then we are nearly up to those two points a game I have mentioned before.
The boys have certainly got the ability to go and do that again, sometimes the confidence comes from a good start and we need to do that again.

On Selection for Saturday:

I will pay attention to training, but I'm a little bit about continuity, I think that's important.
We've got 12 players who have played regularly if you include Asa to the starting 11 so I have got a bit of maneuverability there.
I haven't picked the team yet in my head so you'll have to wait and see.
I do know that whatever team I select will give it a right good go and hopefully we'll get another Southport type performance.
