Yates: Determined To Maintain Run

5 September 2014

Mark Yates confident but wary of a Morecambe side who have started strongly.

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates looks ahead to this weekend's fixture away at Morecambe:

"The lads worked really hard and played really well on Tuesday. That is a confidence boost for the the squad and the staff. It takes us nicely into a tough game tomorrow.

"Morecambe have started well and they look like they can score goals for fun but we are doing pretty well ourselves so we go there full of confidence with a bit of belief and the determination to keep our unbeaten run going.

"A good start was always the plan behind a really tough pre-season because we knew we had to hit the ground running but not it's about maintaining that and even pushing on. There's more to come from the squad. There will be setbacks and we will get beat but at the minute we have to keep working hard and take it from there. Pre-season was tough but that was a deliberate ploy of ours. To be fair the season has gone pretty well so far but we're very early into it and we just want to keep it going. It's really pleasing and hopefully it bodes well for us.

"Everyone is in the reckoning to play because we made six changes (on Tuesday) and there were six really good performances. Two strikers making their first starts for us both scored goals and the options is where I want to be. Jack Deaman coming in at centre half without Stevey and was excellent - it just shows we have a decent squad. We have a nucleus of a main group but there is people pushing on and w are always after competition for places because it increases performance levels. If the players keep working hard as they are doing then I can't see any reason why we can't carry on.

"We're fine (with injuries). We're training and then travelling straight after so we'll probably pick up a few injuries on the M6 because it's notoriously rather busy on a Friday! We are in good spirits and we'll probably watch the Coventry game tonight so we'll all be sat together. We have got a few new players to the club too who will be making their debuts in front of the microphone tonight so we will have some fun before we get down to serious business tomorrow.

"Morecambe are notoriously good starters. I know Jim (Bentley) well and he has done a really good job up there but he will want to keep it going as we all will. Some teams who haven't started well will still think they can get in and around it and quite rightly so. Nothing is decided at the end of August. It is just one month ticked off, five games gone and we're now into September where will try to accumulate as many points as we can. We won't get carried away with where we are because there will be many challenges ahead but when things are going well then you must go along with it and strive to improve."
