Yates: Credit To Luton

13 September 2014

Mark Yates on the 1-0 loss to Luton this afternoon.

Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates speaking to the press following the 1-0 loss away at Luton:

Video reaction to come shortly.

"We are disappointed not to get anything from the game. For the first 25 minutes they were better than us and they did to us what we do to teams. They won too many first and second balls but they paid a massive compliment to us by matching our shape but that's something we'll have to deal with.

"In the second half we were better and we had more chances. We were outstanding and if we got one then we would have got a couple but it wasn't to be. I won't fault the lads as long as I get hard work and effort. I got that all game but the first 20 minutes was a little misguided. Credit to them (Luton) because they had something to hold onto and they managed too. The goalkeeper has made a few good saves and now it's about how we respond.

"In the second half we had chances to win three or four games but the keeper has made good saves, we have picked the wrong options but that's what happens when you concede a sloppy goal like we did. It was a poor goal on our part. I can't fault them because we have had seven games, fourteen points, two points a game and that is tremendous from the whole group.

"John and Koby have been outstanding so deserved their chance and I thought they were good but I just thought we didn't give them the right service in the first half. We have four decent strikers and we had five up front for the last ten minutes.

"If we keep creating the chances that we have been creating then the goals will come and I have no doubt about that. We move on and now we have two home games where we will try to accumulate some points.

"I enjoyed it despite the frustration and I just wanted it to keep going until we got that goal but you have to give the opposition credit sometimes. This is a fantastic football stadium and the supporters make some noise, get behind them and are desperate for them to win. Their fans got them through the last ten minutes really so sometimes you need to hold your hands up and credit the opposition. I'm not displeased with my players because they did well again."
