Matthew Gould Deal Done

5 September 2014

Young goalkeeper Matthew Gould will join the Robins subject to international clearance.

We can confirm that Matthew Thomas has agreed a contract here at Whaddon Road and will join the club subject to international clearance.

The young goalkeeper has been training with the Robins over the past few weeks and put pen to paper earlier today but he will be ineligible this weekend away at Morecambe as we await international clearance.

Matthew played a full 90 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday afternoon in the 4-2 victory over Swindon Town and Mark Yates was happy to complete the deal after watching him in action.

"He is a young goalkeeper desperate for a chance," said Mark.

"It's obviously subject to international clearance but it should be done. We love his attitude because he wants to work and Stevey (Book) will work with him and Trevor to help him progress. His attitude is refreshing and hopefully he can start to build himself a career - we're happy to offer him that chance."

'Gouldy' has been playing his football in New Zealand and Australia but he decided to move to England to pursue a football career after departing Hawke's Bay United. Matthew is the son of form Glasgow Celtic goalkeeper Jonathan Gould and of course the grandson of former Cheltenham Town manager Bobby Gould.
