Cheltenham Town booked their spot in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 2-0 win at home to Oxford United.Our local rivals started the first half well and kept the Robins backline busy but John Marquis' headed goal in first half injury time gave his side a lead under the floodlights of Whaddon Road.
That goal blew all the confidence out of Oxford United and the Robins were largely in control for much of the second half. A red card for Oxford's Meades for a bad challenge on Jason Taylor only added to the pressure on Appleton's side and Koby Arthur's 78th minute header secured the win and the continuation of some excellent form.
