A frustrating night ended in defeat for a ten-man Cheltenham Town who were beaten by Southend United.The game itself was enjoyable with two good sides battling it out in the first half but a decision to send Jason Taylor off after 38 minutes and a number of other decisions unfortunately marred what could have been a real spectacle.
Taylor's reaction unfortunately gave the referee the chance to show his card and his dismissal landed a sucker punch to the Robins.
Conor Clifford, who was the Southend player involved in the sending off, smashed a superb shot past Carson early on in the second half and the Robins had to hold on for a 15 minute period whilst the visitors had their tails up. Mark Yates' side certainly weren't out of the game however and they showed fight and spirit on a number of occasions although sadly it ws not enough to take anything from the game.
