Robins Ladies well beaten at Enfield

15 October 2014

Enfield Town 5 Cheltenham Town Ladies 0

Cheltenham Town suffered a heavy defeat at Enfield in the FA WPL League Plate Cup.

On a superb pitch, the Robins started brightly, but Enfield threatened through their fast forwards and then took hold of the game in midfield through their crisp passing.

One attack forced Cheltenham goalkeeper Anna Dennis to react bravely, and prevent the opening goal.

Dennis was treated for bruised ribs, but happily resumed. However, from the resulting corner, she was unable to prevent the ball from going directly into the net and was credited with an own goal.

The half finished with the play evenly shared between both teams, Cheltenham just edging it, and were unlucky when it appeared Rhona Donaldson had scored, but she had handled the ball and it was chalked off.

The second half started disastrously for Cheltenham, as they conceded three goals in 15 minutes, effectively ending the match after an hour.

Set piece defending was again being an issue and to finish off a poor second half, a spectacular own goal from Natalie Berry left a shell-shocked Cheltenham team to make the long trip home.

Cheltenham Town Ladies: A Dennis, C Griffin, A Pearce, K Walker, N Berry, E Skipp, R Donaldson, A Brown, L McGlone, L Godwin, J Wiltshire. Subs: N Dixon, J Lenton, C Reilly.
