Steve Elliott To Join Cheltenham Town Backroom Staff

12 May 2014

Steve Elliott has agreed terms on a new one year deal as a player and as a coach this morning.

Club captain Steve Elliott has agreed terms on a new one year deal which will see him become a player/coach here at Whaddon Road.

Steve, 35, has made 175 appearances and scored 8 goals in four seasons with the Robins and this deal will take him into a fifth. It also hands Steve a chance to progress in coaching after recently passing his UEFA 'B' qualification.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me," said Steve.

"The club have given me the opportunity and it is a no brainer for me. I want to help develop the younger players at this club and to be a part of the gaffer's staff will help me take that next step in my career too.

"I had the opportunity to take a one year playing contract at another club but once this was offered to me by Cheltenham then it was an easy decision to make."

Steve's appointment onto the backroom staff is just one step in the re-structure of the club's management team but the former Bristol Rovers and Derby defender was also keen to stress that he wants to play a big role in the first team too.

"Predominantly I want to keep playing too," added Steve.

"I want to be able to play 20 to 30 games and I feel ready to do that. I have had four fantastic years with this football club and I'm looking forward to next step in my career."

Steve agreed terms with Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker and club secretary Paul Godfrey earlier today at Whaddon Road and will put pen to paper later in the week.
