Pitch Work Underway At Whaddon Road

19 May 2014

The Whaddon Road turf is being dug up as work for the 2014-15 season gets underway.

Work is now underway as tractors descend on the Whaddon Road turf to prepare it for the 2014-15 season.

The pitch took a battering last season with two teams playing competitive football upon it and the weather once again causing problems over the winter months but steps have been taken to try and improve the quality of the surface next season.

Paul Baker, speaking to www.ctfc.com this morning, admitted that extra investment had been placed into pitch work in this close season and he hopes it will have a positive effect.

"The tractors are down there now taking off the top 3 or 4 inches," said Paul.

"They're not just taking off the surface grass but a lot of the dead stuff underneath that was causing the pitch to be bumpy and to not drain properly. Every year we spend a reasonable amount on the pitch but this year we are just doing that little bit extra because we have a little catch up to do.

"We want to make sure we have one of the best playing surfaces in the country and we will have."

We will endeavour to update you on the progress of the pitch during the summer here on www.ctfc.com.
