Cheltenham Town senior sports therapist Ian Weston was honoured at the weekend
Senior Sports Therapist Ian Weston has picked up an award from the League Medical Association.'Weso' was honoured at the weekend with the League Medical Association's League 2 Member's award and it is deserved recognition for a man who has served the Robins for over a decade.
He has been a major figure in the backroom staff since 2002 and he is well respected within the Football League.
The award honours the work he does day in and day out behind the scenes at Whaddon Road and Weso admitted he was overjoyed to be named their award winner.
"I was delighted to receive it," he said.
"They are a fantastic association set up by Eamonn Salmon three years ago and this is the first time they have had a conference and an awards dinner so I am delighted to win the League 2 award.
"The whole weekend was fantastic being around the elite medical teams from clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United. It was an informal weekend with lectures, networking and then the awards dinner on the Saturday night was a fantastic evening."
The deserved award for Ian comes at a time where the management structure around him is being refreshed by the board of directors and one of those changes comes in the form of Steve Elliott.
Both Ian and Steve have a good relationship between the scenes and Weso told www.ctfc.com that he believes Steve Elliott will make a major impact as a player/coach.
"Steve is going to be vitally important," Weso explained.
"He is that link between the changing room and the staff but, more than anyone, he knows how to look after himself because he has done a great job throughout his whole career. He's still playing at 35 going on 36, he's out there every day training and that is down to Steve looking after himself.
"To have an influence in the staff room like that is important and we know that influence will ripple through the dressing room from day one."
