Asa Hall Completes Cheltenham Town Transfer

28 May 2014

Midfielder Asa Hall has today signed for the Robins following his release from Shrewsbury Town

We can confirm that former Shrewsbury Town and Oxford United midielder Asa Hall has today signed a two year contract here at Whaddon Road.

Asa, 27, was release by Shrewsbury Town following their relegation from League One and Mark Yates was quick to make him the second signing of the summer.

"I'm really pleased to be here," said Asa.

"I've played here before, I like Cheltenham and I have always admired the Gaffer. I know a few players that have played under him and it was just a great opportunity and I really wanted to join.

"Hopefully I can bring some experience and some goals as well. I know a few of the lads so hopefully we can bring the squad together and have a real go at it."

Hall was born in Sandwell, West Midlands and was a young player in Wolverhampton Wanderers' Academy setup before he moved onto Birmingham City where he signed professional terms at the age of 17.

As a young midfielder he represented England at Under 19 and 20 level before making his Football League bow on loan at Boston United in the 2005-06 season. Further loan spells with Ashford Town and then Shrewsbury helped him begin to make a name for himself and he was subsequently offered permanent terms but opted to join Luton Town in 2008 instead. Hall helped Luton reach the final of the Football League Trophy in 2009 but he was released at the end of contract having made 89 appearances and scoring 17 goals.

Asa's next step was with Oxford United who had just been promoted back into the Football League. Over 70 appearances and 11 goals later and he linked back up with Shrewsbury Town in 2012 and made his second Shrews debut in the League Cup clash versus Leeds United. Further loan spells at Aldershot Town and Oxford United followed before Hall was informed his contract would not be renewed at the Greenhous Meadow following their relegation.

Asa signed his contract here at Whaddon Road earlier today having successfully completed a medical and will meet up with his new team-mates when they return for pre-season training at the end of June.
