Yates: Oxford Will Be Tough

Mark Yates is still aiming for 8th as he looks for his players to continue a stronger run of form.

"Portsmouth and Oxford are two big clubs but you are where you are and you must deal with it. Oxford are having a good season and perhaps haven't had the results they would have wanted at late but they are in a good position and it'll be a tough game.

"Oxford lost a good manager (Chris Wilder), I'll give them that but the players are the same and Mickey Lewis and Andy Melville have gone in there and have done a really good job. It's just a really tight league and we have to go there and worry about ourselves. If we put in the same performance we did against Portsmouth and if we can finish some of the chances we are creating then even better. We looked solid, organised and hard working which is what you have got to be for any League Two game.

"It certainly was paper talk (rumours linking Yates to Oxford). I've seen Oxford a couple of time recently and they are a good side. They normally have four forwards on the pitch and they do have very good players. They are in the middle of a decent season but we must apply ourselves like we did on Saturday with the same work rate, commitment and effort. There were some good signs on Saturday and ones that we can build upon.

"There won't be wholesale changes and we do have a run of games that come thick and fast now but if I can pick the same team then we won't be far away. The shape we are playing suits where we are at the minute and we are playing some decent football. Apart from ten minutes against Chesterfield we have been pretty good for 5 or 6 games now.

"Our aim is 8th in this table at this moment in time. Until we an changes those goals then that is what we're going to try and do. We want to finish strongly, finish positively and everyone has got something to play for. We all have something to prove and play for which is what has to be our aim over the remaining 12 games. We won't let the season peter out because how many points are we away from third bottom in the table? It's ridiculously tight and nobody wants to be there but we are also so close to 8th. We want to finish strong, we want to finish well and 8th is our goal right at the moment in time."
