Cheltenham Town will take on Brighton in the first round of the Capital One CupCheltenham Town will take on Brighton & Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
All Capital One Cup first round matches will take place in the week commencing Monday 11 August 2014.
This will be the first time Cheltenham Town will play Brighton at their new stadium (American Express Community Stadium) and the Championship opponents will prove stern opponents after competing in the play-offs of the English second tier last season.
Brighton are now managed by former Liverpool defender and Finland international Sami Hyypia and finished 6th in the Championship last season before being beaten in the play-off semi-finals.
Our opponents were knocked out at the first stage last season at the hands of Newport County. Cheltenham Town of course booked their spot in the second round with a win over Crawley Town but lost out to West Ham United at Upton Park.
The last meeting between the two sides was back in January 2009 and Whaddon Road in a game that ended 2-2. Late goals from Nicky Forster and Adam Hinshelwood secured a point for Brighton after Ian Westlake and Chris Westwood gave the Robins a strong lead. The last meeting away in Brighton was a 3-3 draw at the old Withdean Stadium. Glenn Murray scored a hat trick for Brighton that day and there were goals for Scott Murray (2) and Andy Gallinagh.
Ticket and travel details for this match are yet to be confirmed and will be published when possible here on ctfc.com.
