Paul Black Signs For Robins

24 June 2014

Former Oldham and Tranmere left back Paul Black has today signed for the Robins.

We can today confirm the signing of left back Paul Black on a one year contract following a medical this afternoon.

Paul, 24, was previously at Mansfield Town but was released by the Stags in the summer allowing Mark Yates to make his move and sign him up for the Robins ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.

"I'm looking forward to playing football for Cheltenham," said Paul.

"It was important for me that this was a footballing move and I got a really good impression from Mark Yates when I first met him. It's a good club to come and play my football so hopefully I can kick on and show why I should be playing.

"I actually made my debut against Cheltenham when I played for Oldham so I have pictures all round my house of Cheltenham and it was a good day for me. I have good memories."

Paul started his career as a product of Oldham Athletic's Academy and he went on to make 70 senior appearances for the club as well as enjoying a loan spell with Barrow. Following his departure from Oldham he linked up with Tranmere Rovers in July 2012 and made just over 10 appearances for the Prenton Park outfit before leaving the following season.

His next stop was with newly promoted Mansfield Town but he joined Carlisle United on loan soon after and made five appearances for the League One club. He made just one appearance for Mansfield upon his return in an FA Cup fixture versus St Albans.

Paul has been handed squad number 18 and will meet up with his new team-mates tomorrow in a strength and conditioning training session.

An interview with Paul will be available on Robins Player later today and a teaser on YouTube shortly.
