CTFC's World Cup Predictions

12 June 2014

Players and staff have had their brains picked today for their World Cup predictions

The World Cup kicks off this evening with the hosts Brazil playing against Croatia. But will the tournament favourites handle the nation’s pressure or will there be a dark horse lifting the 18 carat gold trophy aloft on July 13th?

We all have our views and here are some of the predictions made by the team at CTFC.

When the tournament has been held in South America there has never been a winner from outside the continent. But that hasn't stopped Chairman Paul Baker opting for the Spanish to retain the crown they won in South Africa 2010. And former player Shane Duff and our Community Development Officer Olly Roberts agree.

Brazil’s biggest South American rivals Argentina have been strongly backed. Zack Kotwica, Harry Williams, Terry Gornell and Head of Youth Russell Milton all choose ‘La Albiceleste’. With Troy Brown saying that they’ll beat Brazil in the final.

Flying out today to Arena Amazonia, Manaus is our very own Paul Godfrey and he’s gone for the boys from Brazil to win an unprecedented sixth title. They are also the pick of team Captain Steve Elliott, midfielder Matt Richards and new signing Lee Vaughan. From the office Marie Carter and James Brown have also gone Samba. While former goalkeeper Steve Book says he’ll go with Brazil because "like me, they play with the same style and flair!"

An individual nod to the Germans comes from Office Secretary Jennie Thomas, with Joe Hanks and Meg Lancaster fancying a bit of Chile.

That leaves only our Commercial Sales Executive Steven Burge to choose England, he said “I know my head says different, but my heart goes England. Come on you Lions!”
