Cheltenham Town Seal Andy Haworth Transfer

24 June 2014

Mark Yates has snapped up midfielder Andy Haworth on a 1 year contract this afternoon.

We can confirm that former Bury and Falkirk winger Andy Haworth has signed a 1-year contract here at Whaddon Road.

Andy, 25, was previously at Tamworth but left the club following their relegation from the Conference and Mark Yates believes the former Bury midfielder has a lot to offer.

"This can be a fresh start in the league for me," said Andy.

"Mark (Yates) really sold the club well to me. He is ambitious and has had some success over the last few seasons. He wants a hungry squad of players that want to improve themselves and that was a major aspect of me signing.

"I'm a flair player who likes to take people on and I like to be positive. I like to get crosses in, set goals up and hopefully chip in with a few myself."

Haworth began his career as a product of the Blackburn Rovers Academy but made just two cup appearances for the club during his time as a senior pro. During his time with Blackburn he also spent time out on loan with clubs such as Gateshead and Rochdale.

After his departure from Ewood Park he linked up with Bury and spent two seasons with the Shakers in which he made over 50 appearances for the club and scored 3 goals. Whilst with Bury he also had loan spells with both Oxford United and Bradford City. Following his departure from Bury he moved to Scotland to play for SPL side Falkirk and he made 16 appearances during a six month spell before heading back down south to sign for Rochdale. His appearances were limited to just 7 with the Spotland outfit and he left the club at the end of 2012-13 campaign.

A move to Notts County followed on a 6 month contract but he made just three substitute appearances before joining Conference side Tamworth on loan where he would later sign on a permanent basis.

Following his departure from Tamworth in May he was snapped up by Mark Yates and completed his medical earlier this afternoon. Andy has been handed squad number 11 and will link up with his new team-mates tomorrow in a strength and conditioning session.

We hope to have an interview with Andy available here on Robins Player in the near future.
