Pre-Season Training: They're Back

2 July 2014

The Robins were back in full pre-season training this week as the build-up to 2014-15 continues.

They're back and they look ready and raring to go already ahead of the 2014-15 Sky Bet League 2 campaign.

There were new faces, introductions, fresh starts but plenty of work as Mark Yates and his new backroom staff planned two sessions revolving around fitness and of course football.

The first day back was also a chance for the local media to meet up with some of the new faces and watch the players settle into their new environment.

Of course, with every pre-season, there are trialists attending the sessions in the hope that they can persuade Mark Yates to give them a professional contract at Whaddon Road including local striker Duncan Culley who scored well over 45 goals for Shortwood in the Southern League Division One South and West.

There was also the appearance of former Plymouth and Chesterfield defender Neal Trotman who is attending so the management can cast an eye over his fitness. Although not a trialist, he hopes to impress enough to earn a place in the Robins squad.

Confirmed 2014-15 trialists: Keiran Wallace (midfielder - Nottingham Forest), Duncan Culley (striker - Shortwood United), Omari Sterling-James (striker - Redditch United) & Jermaine Hylton (striker - Redditch United)

Confirmed Summer Signings: Trevor Carson (Goalkeeper), Lee Vaughan (Right-Back), Paul Black (Left-Back), Asa Hall (Central Midfielder) & Andy Haworth (Winger)

Fitness tests are underway at the University of Gloucestershire today as pre-season training steps up. There will be plenty of news on and off the pitch ahead of the first friendly of the summer (Wolves - Friday 11 July) with Mark Yates confirming he was working hard on bringing further new signings to Whaddon Road over the coming weeks.
