Yates: Top Performance Needed

9 January 2014

Mark Yates is relishing the test away at Burton this weekend and he wants a top performance.

Robins manager Mark Yates speaking to the media this morning ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League 2 clash away at Burton Albion:

"Kemar (Roofe) is done and the paperwork should be done this morning to carry on the loan. He has made an impact for us and hopefully he can continue to do that. The loan slightly changes because he turned 21 last week unfortunately so it looks like we only have a three month window of having him now and that is unfortunate but we are delighted to have got him for the next month and maybe a third month.

"Toby Ajala didn't get any game time and that is just the way it is sometimes. I have been pleased with the players we have got but we wish him well. Zack (Kotwica) is back after a good month playing some games and we want him back in the squad. There's no more news. We definitely need to strengthen but we just need to decide what we exactly need. I'm not going to have much to spend so what I do have I have got to use wisely so we need to know exactly what we're after. I spoke to you the other day about Russ (Penn). He has been a great servant for the club and we wish him well but he is gone now and we have to move on without him.

"It seems a long time since a game and since we have been able to use a big pitch. The training ground looks great from here but it's very wet as are everyone's training grounds. I'm looking forward to Saturday and we need a couple of good days and we have had a couple already this week. I'm just looking to carry that on, get some work into the boys because it seems a long time especially because we got beaten in the last game. We want a positive start on Saturday and I have no doubt that the players will be ready and up for the game. They look good in training and they have a good spirit about them. There's no reason why we cannot get back to winning form on Saturday.

"We have a full squad available and hopefully that stays the same until Saturday so we'll see what can come up with.

"Burton are a good side. They work hard, they create chances, they have people who can score goals and they are keeping clean sheets - sounds like a recipe for success for me. We know how tough it is going to be because not many teams go up there and get a positive result so we're going to have to be right on top of our game to get anything out of it. We're not in bad form ourselves though and we're looking forward to getting a game on and, although it will be tough, we're looking forward to it. It'll be a good even contest but we have to make sure we compete for everything and make sure we play as well as we have done recently particularly away from home and, if we do that, we give ourselves a chance."

Mark Yates' Cheltenham are 15/2 to win their first game of 2014 by a scoreline of 1-0 this weekend.
