Yates: Big Game, Big Performance

10 February 2014

Mark Yates wants a big performance from his players to quieten the Memorial Stadium home crowd.

Robins manager Mark Yates speaking to the media earlier today ahead of Tuesday evening's clash away at Bristol Rovers (7.45pm):

"Local derbies are good games to be involved in and after a good draw away at York on Saturday we are looking to go there (Bristol) and put on a good performance. I thought we finished Saturday's game well, the last half hour in particular, and you always want a big performance for big games.

"The boys enjoy playing under the floodlights in evening games and we'll deal with wind, rain and whatever we come across. The pitch isn't in great condition but that's the same as most pitches at the moment. We need to have the right attitude but also the willingness to work really hard for each other.

"We will be going out there to win the game. They (Rovers) are targeting this one as the game they want to win and their fans will really get behind them I am sure. We have to go and quieten them and play our football. We need to play with intelligence but also the commitment that a local derby demands.

"There's not a lot of points between many teams in this division. York were a tough side to play against but we dealt with it and we have got a decent record against Rovers away from home so we need to maintain that. We need to try and win ourselves because we have drawn a few of late and we need to win a game starting with tomorrow night. Everything is frustrating if you are not winning games but it's not a problem and there are plenty of positives to take from the last three games. Fresh game, fresh challenge and we still have 12 games to get to where we want to be. That is a big ask but we will take each game as it comes and I have belief in this team."

Cheltenham Town are 9/5 to win this game on Tuesday night and former Rovers striker Jamie Cureton is 11/2 to open the scoring.
