Yates: We Won't Take Hartlepool Lightly

28 August 2014

Mark Yates is confident of a good performance but does not want his players to take Hartlepool lightly.

Mark Yates talking to the media ahead of this weekend's home match versus Hartlepool United:

Mark Yates' full press call will be available to view on Robins Player later today.

"The players had Monday off and then had fitness testing at the University on Tuesday where we had some good results after five games. They had a training session that afternoon before having a day off yesterday and being in bright this morning. We'll have a good day today, a lighter day tomorrow and ready for what will be a tough examination against a Hartlepool side that got a really good win on Saturday.

"The plan all week was to give them bank holiday Monday off and if we had lost at the weekend then it would not have changed that because they have worked really hard without much rest so it was important to get that recovery time in. There is a really good spirit in the camp at the moment and it's a good place to come and work anyway but especially so after the win (at Tranmere.)

"Koby (Arthur) is close to a start. I was at a game the other night with Lee Clarke (Birmingham manager) and he is really pleased at the impact he is making. He knows that a start is only round the corner and when we need him I am sure he will be ready to step up.

"We think we might have found somebody (striker) but we're waiting on an answer and hopefully we'll have that in the next 48 hours. Then hopefully we an crack on working with the group as we have been doing and embedding new ideas. If we can keep doing that then hopefully we'll keep getting results. Bobby Gould's grandson Matthew (goalkeeper) has been out in Australia and New Zealand playing but he has been training with us for the last few days. Bobby has been taxi and we are looking at him with a view to seeing what we can do. He has worked really well with the Steve (Book) and the players but hopefully we'll get something done.

"Just Asa is injured. We have one or two little bumps but they're okay. I've just been in to question a few whether they will be okay for the weekend and they just laughed at me. They like to be mollycoddled every now and then like we all do! Steve (Elliott) trained on Tuesday but there has been something (illness) about. Back home I know a few people with colds and the sniffles and we're the same. I've got a sore throat myself for anyone that might be in the slightest bit interested! We should be fine for this weekend.

"It's early days but Hartlepool play decent football and they have a good mix if experience and youth. We must make sure we don't take them lightly because it's important we treat each game the same and the players have done that so far. It has played a big part in us getting as many points as we have done in the last few games. We'll have to deal with Marlon Harewood and I see that the lad Luke James is back in training but Charlie Wyke too because he scored on his debut. They have players that can hurt you so it'll be tough game like they all are but as long as we approach it properly then we give ourselves a chance."
