Yates: Not Getting Carried Away

18 August 2014

Mark Yates is expecting a tough challenge against a Carlisle side yet to pick up points.

Cheltenham chief Mark Yates speaking with the media earlier on today:

Watch Mark's full press call on Robins Player here.

"The lads have started really well and they have adapted to what we have asked them to do. The formation does suit certain players in our team and we have to find out ways of doing things better at certain times but we can be pleased with the effort that the players have put in. It has been all about that effort and commitment so if we can add more quality to our game then it bodes well.

"I think they have enjoyed it (the new formation) and I think it's got us a couple of good results. We need to keep improving and not get carried away. We need to put in the same effort every single game.

"There's not a great deal we can do out there on the grass today with the game so soon but when we don't have games then we will be working on different things. I'm pleased with our start but we always said it would take us six to eight games to get into the way we're playing. There's little improvements all the time but at the moment it's about hard work and working for each other. They're doing that and if they can add more quality then it does bode well for the group.

"We have six points but we need to keep our feet on the ground and do what we can to make sure we're bright and lively for tomorrow's game. Carlisle will be right up for this one and desperate to get some points on the board so we must make sure we don't get carried away with ourselves and just do what we have done in the previous two league games. They will be difficult to beat because they've had a couple of defeats and it looks like they're trying to make a couple of signings. We enquired about a player that it looks like they have beaten us too this morning so they might have one or two fresh faces. Shaun (North) and I know Kav (Graham Kavanagh) really well because he's been on the pro licence with us. He's a good manager and he will work tirelessly to make sure they are as good as they can be to come here. I think they will be up there come the end of the season. We must make sure we do our jobs tomorrow.

"We'll see about Byron today (dead leg) but we are hopeful. Everyone is okay but we'll get through today and see where we are.

"A fast start would be great for us because we need some momentum. You know what it's like when teams make long journeys but Carlisle have to make them week in and week out. We're pretty safe geographically and it's great for us but with these journeys it is important to get off to a flying start if we can."
