Yates: Not At Our Best

19 August 2014

Mark Yates believes his side were not at their best against a tough Carlisle team.

Cheltenham manager Mark Yates discussions the match at home to Carlisle United this evening:

"I'm satisfied with a point. We had a glorious chance with Koby but that was all we did create. We didn't create much tonight but through guts, effort and hard work I cannot fault them. It's a clean sheet and Trev has made a good save at the end but it could have gone either way. It was an entertaining 0-0. I knew Kav (Graham Kavanagh) would have them fired up because I think he was disappointed with his players on Saturday but he got a great response off them. We expected that and we needed to match them but we weren't anywhere near our best or as hard working as we can be. That is why we got a 0-0 and not a 1-0.

"We were good enough to keep a clean sheet with a few saves from Trev including the one on one but we didn't work hard enough to push it over the line. A goal from Koby would have perhaps been harsh on them. I'm pleased with a point. Three unbeaten in the league, seven points from nine and I think we would have settled for that but we just want to win every home game. There were some tired legs out there today and it has been mainly the same core of players but I'm pleased with their attitude and desire to stay in the game. We were far from our best but I think the fans have seen that they are desperate to keep clean sheets and do well.

"We need to improve on loads of things and we know that but I have to take a little heat off the players today because there are some tired legs and I need to get a few in sooner rather than later. We will go up to Tranmere full of energy and then we have a full week to get ready for Hartlepool and it's important by then we get a couple of players in.

"The resillence really pleases me and last season we would have got beaten 1-0. The resillience is there in abundance as is the fight and spirit so we just need to combine it with a bit of know how sometimes. We are in the infancy of this season and this system that we are playing so there will be different problems we have to solve. As long as we don't lose belief in what we're doing then we can be better. A massive well done to not get beaten and for keeping a clean sheet."
