John Marquis Joins Robins

28 August 2014

Millwall striker John Marquis has this afternoon completed a loan move to Whaddon Road.

We can this afternoon confirm the loan signing of Millwall striker John Marquis.

John, 22, has joined Cheltenham Town on an initial one month loan and will be available for this weekend's home fixture versus Hartlepool United at Whaddon Road.

The young striker has been handed squad number 26 and Mark Yates admitted to www.ctfc.com that he has been a player they have monitored for a while.

"John is one we have had an eye on for a while," he said.

"He has a real talent and an experience in the Football League with Millwall as well as other clubs at this level in other loan moves. We need competition in those forward positions and John will be able to provide that. He is a talented player and I believe he will compliment what we already have here."

John is a highly rated striker that came through Millwall's youth system and he was handed a professional contract in the summer of 2010. He made his debut beforehand as a substitute versus Bristol Rovers in 2009 and he has since made over 40 competitive appearances for his club.

His first professional goal was in a Championship clash with Norwich at the Den in 2010 and he continued to make a real impact.

Opportunities were limited for John in the 2013-14 season and he enjoyed loan spells with Torquay, Portsmouth and Northampton having previously enjoyed a spell with Staines. Shortly after the arrival of Ian Holloway however he was handed a new one-year contract and is now aiming to push for a first team appearance by producing on loan here at Cheltenham Town.

You can watch John and his new team-mates in action this weekend as the Robins host Hartlepool. Buy tickets here.
