Accrington Rewind

15 August 2014

We look back on our last fixture versus James Beattie's Accrington Stanley.

Cheltenham Town take on James Beattie's Accrington Stanley this weekend in what is our first home game of the season.

The Robins go into the game full of confidence following a 1-0 win over Bury last weekend and a pleasing performance away at Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion in midweek.

Whaddon Road has however been a happy hunting ground for Accrington in previous years and this weekend's opponents ran out 2-1 winners here back in January.

Both sides were languishing in the bottom half the table at the time and it was a former Robins trialist that strick first in our previous encounter. George Bowerman's cushioned header gave his side the lead and captain Luke Joyce made it 2-0 before half-time with another header.

The Robins did respond with a goal of their own after 72 minutes courtesy of Jamie Cureton but they failed to find a leveller and slumped to a disappointing defeat. Here's hoping that result is put right this weekend.
