Southend Rewind

5 April 2014

Cast your minds back to November for our last league meeting with Southend United.

Southend United are our opponents in Sky Bet League 2 this afternoon and they are a team desperate for points.

The Roots Hall outfit certainly have a strong case for making the play-offs this season and points here today would edge them closer to that dream but the Robins have shown what they can do with a solid win over Hartlepool last weekend. Today's game could be a cracker.

The last meeting between the two clubs was back in November and ended with a 1-1 scoreline and a point apiece.

Cheltenham Town had fallen behind through Kevan Hurst's 41st minute opener and Phil Brown's Southend United looked as though they were heading for all three points despite Cheltenham's pressure.

However, a handball by the tired looking Anthony Straker handed the Robins the chance they needed and Matt Richards didn't waste the opportunity with a well struck penalty beating Bentley between the sticks to send the travelling support wilds in last few second of the game.

Re-live that game by reading the match report here or watch the highlights on the YouTube video player just above.
