A young Robins side were comfortably beaten by a Bristol City XI away at Ashton Gate this week.

The loss means Russell Milton's team have been knocked out of the Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Trophy semi-final and, in truth, the Robins rarely threatened.

The game began on an even footing but City's explosive striker Marley Bishop soon broke past Bowen at left back before hammering the ball past Harvey Rivers to take the lead. If it had not been for the reactive saves of Harvey Rivers then the hosts may well have been further ahead at the break but they finally did double and then triple their lead early in the second half through Bishop once again.

Bristol City's winner came courtesy of a stunning strike from left back Hall who left Rivers with no chance as he curled a sublime effort inside the far post. In truth, the closest Cheltenham came was a through ball from Kotwica into the path of Williams but the City keeper was quick off his line and the Robins had to chalk this defeat down to experience and lessons learnt.
