Cheltenham Town responded well to the weekend's defeat by hammering Morecambe 3-0 at the Abbey Business Stadium on Tuesday night.
Goals from Matt Richards, Terry Gornell and Byron Harrison sealed all three points over a Morecambe side who were looking to stretch their unbeaten run to 10 games.
The Shrimps started well and forced Scott Brown into a superb save within 5 minutes after Padraig Amond found himself through on goal. The Robins goalkeeper also had to be alert to tip Ryan Williams' freekick over the bar as Morecambe tried to force an opening. It was the Robins that took the lead however and right before half time too. Terry Gornell was fouled on the corner of the area and Matt Richards' freekick alluded everyone before settling nicely into the back of the net.
It was all Cheltenham in the second half and their cause was only helped when Morecambe captain Mark Hughes was given his marching orders for a second yellow card after a foul on Deering. You could see the confidence flowing when Terry Gornell produced a fine solo effort to score a second and put his side further in control. Cheers of 'Ole' were met as Cheltenham began to string their passes around a now deflated Morecambe side and Byron Harrison added a third just to confirm the win. A good night for Cheltenham Town and an important win under the floodlights of the Abbey Business Stadium.
