Yates: Job Well Done

16 November 2013

Mark Yates believes his players owed today's win to themselves, the fans and the club.

Robins manager Mark Yates speaking to the media follow this afternoon's 2-1 win over Wycombe:

"We owed that win to everybody. We owed it to ourselves, the supporters and the club. 30 games to go and we've just ticked one of them off with 3 points with a good away performance and I thought we were the better side.

"They had a few chances in the second half but between the two systems we matched up and I thought we played it better than they did. Scotty (Brown) has made some good saves but we've done a really good job today.

"The players were desperately disappointed from last week but it shouldn't take that to put in the performance that we just put in. They're a good bunch but we didn't do ourselves any favours last week. Our league form over the last 7 or 8 games has been decent and hopefully we can come in with a late one this season rather than being up there all season. We've got the capabilities within the squad, the supporters were tremendous and it has been a good day.

"Jamie Cureton could have had 4 or 5 (goals) today. In the first minute he has shown his instinct with a 30 yard lob and his second has forced a really good save. He scored his goal but he had a great chance before that and then another after that. His movement was superb and he looked a constant threat all day today. We were disappointed at half time not to have converted but we said it had been a great start to the game and that we had to follow it through with a performance in the second half. You have to dig because you're away from home and no-one is going to go powderpuff against you so we had to dig in but from conceding the goal we have gone straight down the other end and scored and it took a bit of wind out of their sails. I thought we were good winners today.

"I thought today was Craig's (Braham-Barrett) best game for us today. He defended well but he also gave us the width we needed. I had a good chat with Sido (Jombati) on Wednesday because I don't think his mind has been clear. He has been confused with his performances because one minute he is brilliant and then he's making mistakes the next. I told him to clear his head and I thought he put in a solid and decent performance. That is what I need from him.

"We have taken a lot of stick and there has been a lot of questions asked this week but I think we have answered a few back today. We've got quality in the squad, endeavor, hard work and the spirit has never been in question for me. It's four matches unbeaten now and it's a dressing room you want to be in. You want that every week and this group is capable of that."
