Yates: A Decent Season

Mark Yates reflects on the evening where his side were unfortunate not to progress to the play-off final

Robins chief Mark Yates talking to the media following this evening's 1-0 play-off semi final second leg defeat...

"We had lots of chances today but their keeper has played unbelievably well. They've got the job done on us but I'm really proud of everyone. We showed people what we're about which we didn't do on Thursday. We got beaten by a great strike but played very well.

"Marlon Pack has been outstanding all season and possibly my best player since Januray 31st and everything that happened with the Swindon move. His response to all that has been brilliant. He takes no blame whatsoever for missing that penalty. He was big enough to stand up and take it in a big game like today and he's been brilliant all season, especially since the end of January. We've had some massive performances from Michael Hector. He's played with a pain killing injection in his ribs today. They were brilliant but even if we there until 9 O'clock in the morning I don't think we'd have scored just under the circumstances.

"It was a great header from Mo that hit the bar and he's been doing that sort of thing regularly over the last two years and he's probably headed it too well. We don't blame people at our club for missing chances. You have to be brave enought to get there so we never criticize for missing chances. We've been unfortunate and it just wasn't out day today.

"We've kept 20 clean sheets and have the best keeper in the league for me. We have to look back on this year and think about how we're going to improve again.

"This will hurt and be difficult for a couple of days but we'll do it. It's now about rest and recovery for the players and then we'll prepare for next year. We've been magnificent overall this season and coming into it off the back of the Wembley defeat last year is testament to my players. They're a great bunch and I'm delighted with every single one of them. I thank all my loaned in players too for their efforts. I'll have some in the squad who will be disappointed not to have played more games but I've had probably the best squad to choose from all season but unfortunately we've come up short and been unlucky today.

"I get judged in this job and haven't delivered what I hoped to but I think it's been a pretty decent season being where we are".
