Pitch Work Underway

20 May 2013

Work is underway on the Abbey Business Stadium pitch ready for the 2013-14 pitch.

The Abbey Business Stadium pitch looks naked right now but work is underway to produce the best surface possible for the 2013-14 season.

A team of workers took the top off the pitch last week before a sand base was placed across the top. Fertiliser will be added across the area later today before water and treatments will help attract growth across the next few months.

Head Groundsman Terry Roberts was shortlisted was Groundsman of the Year once again last season and he is looking forward to producing another fine pitch once again ready for the 2013-14 campaign.

"It's all about treating the surface now to encourage full growth," he said.

"Fertiliser will be added later today and then it's a case of adding water if there is no rain over the next few weeks. The surface will be treated as well to ensure the best possible growth but we should have it looking it's best by the start of the new season."

The pitch was of course looking a little worn towards the end of the last season with miserable weather and over 60 games on the surface took it's toll.

"It was never going to look or play perfect," added Terry.

"There is only so much we can do with the weather we had and of course the amount of games played here. It was great to be shortlisted again but I want to congratulate Plymouth on winning the award this season. We'll be do everything we can to make it the best it can be next season."
