2012-13 Retained List

17 May 2013

Three released as Mark Yates confirms his end of season retained list.

Trio Darren Carter, Bagasan Graham and Harry Hooman have been told they will be released at the end of their current contracts.

Contracts run until the end of June and the three players will then depart the club although Harry Hooman has been invited back into pre-season training as he steps up his recovery from a foot injury.

Marlon Pack, Russell Penn, Kaid Mohamed and Connor Roberts have all been offered new contracts and Mark Yates also confirmed that he is also in discussions with Darryl Duffy about a possible future with the Robins.

"It's the part of football that no manager enjoys," said Mark.

"I want to thank Darren, Harry and Bags for their service to the football club since being here. Darren is the more experienced and we cannot pay him what he would like but I'm not closing the door on him completely.

"Harry is a fit and strong lad but he has been unlucky with injury despite having a decent start to the season. He is another one I won't shut the door on and, if he isn't sorted by pre-season, then we have invited him back to train with us."

Former Birmingham and West Brom midfielder Darren Carter made 38 appearances for Cheltenham Town since joining the club back in August of last year and scored six goals during that time. The 29 year-old initially signed a six month deal with the club following a serious groin injury but his return to football was successful and he was handed a six month extension in January.

Young defender Harry Hooman signed for the club back in July 2011 on a one year deal but he was rewarded with a one year extension last summer. The 22 year-old is a product of the Shrewsbury Town academy and spent time on loan with Hinckley United before being released from the Greenhous Meadow Stadium. Harry actually began the 2012-13 campaign in good form and found himself in the first team but a serious foot injury has since hindered his progress. He made ten starting and 3 substitute appearances during his two year spell with the club.

Former QPR youngster Bagasan Graham joined Cheltenham in July 2012 and did enough to win a one year extension last summer. Loan spells this season with Gloucester City and AFC Telford had given the 20 year-old some first team game time but he now departs the Abbey Business Stadium having made 11 appearances of which just three of those were in the starting XI over the course of two seasons.

Mark confirmed that four players had received written contract offers but revealed that the club were still in discussions with Darryl Duffy about a possible future with the club.

"I'm still talking with Darryl and his agent about his future so we'll see what happens with that over the next few days," he said.

"The other players have been offered deals and we'll have to now see what happens over the coming days and weeks. I have spoken to Russ Penn today and we have verbally agreed on a deal. He is a player I trust and I want him as my captain next season."
